Homegrown Meats started as a group of friends, all San Diego natives, and an idea for a butcher shop. With each of us contributing from our diverse array of backgrounds, from cattle farming to hospitality and the grocery industry to branding, we’ve been able to collectively share our unique expertise and experience to grow the business into what it is today.

In 2010, we started selling small-batch beef jerky, made in-house exclusively in the butcher shop, packaged in a farmers market-style baggie, and sold to our local clientele. As love for the jerky grew, so did the operation.

After partnering with a co-packer in Colton, CA, we began to expand first to friends’ grocery stores, then to Whole Foods and other major chains, and now Homegrown jerky is available online and ready for purchase on a nationwide scale.

Throughout the years, we’ve been fortunate to collaborate with brands, such as San Diego-based Stone Brewing Co. on two flavors, Tangerine Express IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale, as well as our friends at Gringo Bandito, a hot sauce company located in Southern California.

As much growth as we’ve experienced, we remain an independent, multiple family-owned company staying true to our roots. We embrace simplicity and quality overall. With every new flavor we come up with and every new beef jerky fan we welcome on board, our passion lies within creating a craveable snack everyone loves.
